A Son’s Tribute to a Rock Legend

In a poignant moment during the Foo Fighters tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins, the band’s drummer since 1997 who passed away in March 2022, Shane Hawkins, Taylor’s son, delivered a moving performance. On September 3rd, 2022, the 16-year-old drummer took the stage to play “My Hero,” in honor of his father. Dave Grohl introduced Shane, praising his exceptional drumming skills, saying, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone hit the drums as hard as this person.”

A Night of Music and Remembrance

The tribute concert, held on September 3rd, featured an extensive 50-song set over six hours. It kicked off with Liam Gallagher performing Oasis classics with Foo Fighters members, followed by a heartfelt video from Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. The night also saw performances from Dave Grohl’s daughter, Violet, alongside her father.

With a second tribute show scheduled at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum on September 27, fans speculate whether Shane Hawkins might grace the stage again. His performance at the first concert proved his ability to hold his own among the world’s greatest musicians.
